Publication Ethics Policy

Publication Ethics Policy

The African Journal of Health Economics (AJHE) is committed to maintaining high standards of publication ethics and academic integrity. Authors, reviewers, editors, and other participants in the publication process are expected to uphold responsible research and publishing practices.

Ethical Approval

Where research involves human participants, authors should state whether appropriate ethical approval was obtained from the relevant ethics committee or institutional review board.

Where applicable, the manuscript should provide information about the ethics approval, including the name of the approving institution and approval number.

Informed Consent

Authors should confirm that informed consent was obtained from participants where required. For research involving identifiable individuals, appropriate consent for publication should also be obtained where applicable.

Research Integrity

Authors are responsible for ensuring that the work submitted to AJHE is accurate and has been conducted in accordance with accepted standards of research integrity.

Authors should not submit fabricated, falsified, or misleading data or information.

Originality and Duplicate Publication

Manuscripts submitted to AJHE should represent original work. Authors should not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal.

Authors should appropriately acknowledge and reference the work of others. Plagiarism, including substantial unattributed use of another person's work, is not acceptable.

Authorship

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the conception, design, conduct, analysis, or interpretation of the research and who have participated in drafting or critically revising the manuscript and approved the final version.

All authors should agree to the submission and publication of the manuscript.

Conflicts of Interest

Authors, reviewers, and editors should disclose any financial, professional, or personal interests that could influence or reasonably be perceived to influence their work or decisions.

Corrections and Retractions

AJHE may publish corrections or other notices when errors are identified after publication. Where serious problems affect the reliability or integrity of a published article, the journal may consider retraction or other appropriate action.

Editorial and Reviewer Conduct

Editors and reviewers should treat submitted manuscripts confidentially and should assess manuscripts objectively and independently. Reviewers should not use unpublished information obtained through peer review for personal advantage.

Ethical Concerns

Concerns regarding research or publication ethics may be investigated by the Editorial Office. Where appropriate, the journal may seek clarification from authors, their institutions, or relevant ethics bodies before taking further action.

AJHE expects all participants in the publication process to contribute to a fair, transparent, and responsible scholarly record.

Society of African Journal Editors (SAJE) LIBRARY

About SAJE

The SAJE Library is dedicated to African journals and it currently contains over 140,000 articles from 830 African Journals; thus, making the library one of the largest collections of African articles and journals. Our goal is to create a central portal that index all articles published by African journals in a single database that is available to everyone. Therefore, African journals and articles will no longer be at the periphery of scholarly communication.

The Society of African Journal Editors is a society made up of Editors of African Journals. The idea for an association that will bring together African journal editors to promote African journals was first mooted in 2002 by Prof. Ruth Oniang'o, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the African Journal of Food, Agriculture, Nutrition and Development (AJFAND). Prof. Oniang'o's initiative and that of other African editors led to the establishment of the Society of African Journal Editors (SAJE) in 2004. SAJE is a bold idea by African research editors to have some control over the promotion of journals published on the African continent. Furthermore, it is now widely recognized that African universities and institutes need vibrant research journals to publish and promote their research outputs as well as their reviews and opinions.
