Retirees because of age are more likely to be hypertensive with long standing demand for increased health spending. Therefore, this study examined the effect of income reduction on the health status of retired hypertensive subjects in South Western Nigeria. Methods: A structured questionnaire was administered to 247 respondents from three specialist clinics in Oyo and Osun States, Nigeria between January 2019 and October 2019. Both descriptive statistics and logistic regression analysis were carried out on the data. Findings: The study revealed that pensions paid were irregular to most of the retirees. Children have largely been a source of support to these retirees as posited by 45.3% of study participants and the children have been financing their medical expenses. The study also found that age, marital status and household size had a negative relationship with the health status of the retirees, though both marital status and household size were not significant. Also, education, spouse occupation, spouse average income and monthly pension had positive relationship with the health status of the retirees. Conclusion: The study concludes that income shortfall of the retired hypertensives have significant negative impact on their health status. Also, poor health status is associated with higher mean age, large household size and marital status.
<AbstractLanguage>English</AbstractLanguage> <Keywords>Income shortfall,Hypertension,Health Status,Retirees,Nigeria</Keywords> <URLs>
https://ajhe.org.in/ubijournal-v1copy/journals/abstract.php?article_id=13394&title=Effect of Income Shortfall on Health Status of Retired Hypertensive Subjects in South Western, Nigeria.Effect of Income Shortfall on Health Status of Retired Hypertensive Subjects in South Western, Nigeria
</URLs> <References> <ReferencesarticleTitle>References</ReferencesarticleTitle> <ReferencesfirstPage>16</ReferencesfirstPage> <ReferenceslastPage>19</ReferenceslastPage> <References/> </References> </Journal> </Article> </ArticleSet>
